The Tasmanian Government subsidises some of the cost of training for eligible learners.
This funding is available through the Skills Tasmania Apprentice and Trainee Training Fund (ATTF).
Only the following people are eligible for Tasmanian Government subsidised training:
- Australian citizens
- Permanent residents And Tasmanian residents who have permission for work and study in Australia and:
- Are New Zealand citizens with a Special Category Visa
- Are holders of temporary humanitarian visas
- Are Tasmanian State Sponsored skilled migrant visa holders1
- Are a dependent (aged over 18) or partner (spouse) visa holder of an eligible applicant2

In addition to the criteria above, Eligible learners must be an apprentice or a trainee with a registered training contract in Tasmania, and can be new or existing workers, school aged learners or previously qualified apprentices or trainees.
Apprentices and trainees with a qualification that was subsidised within the past 5 years will be eligible for further ATTF subsidies for a subsequent qualification if:
- the qualification is unrelated to any previous subsidised qualification.
- the apprentice or trainee progresses to a higher-level qualification in the same training package within 12-months of completing the previous subsidised qualification.
- the training package Qualification Description indicates that the qualification provides a different occupational outcome and/or additional skills and knowledge to the previously funded qualification completed by the apprentice or trainee.
- Skills Tasmania determines that a subsequent version of the same qualification contains significant changes and/or additions and that it has become the new industry benchmark of essential skills and knowledge for that industry.
- there are changes to, or the introduction of Government standards, licensing or legislation requires staff to update their qualification.
Learners are not eligible for a place under the ATTF if they are:
- not a Tasmanian resident
- currently funded for the same training by another funding source
- were subsidised through the ATTF for the same qualification within the past 5 years
- employees of a Tasmanian government agency, as defined in the Skills Tasmania Policy Statement – Employer Eligibility – Subsidising Employees of Government Organisations
Prior to enrolment, 4Up Skilling will ask you for evidence of your visa status. You will need the following documents to show your visa status:
Eligible person Evidence includes:
- Australian citizens Passport, birth certificate, or citizenship certificate.
- Permanent residents Passport with visa.
- New Zealand citizens with a Special Category Visa Passport with visa.
- Temporary humanitarian visa holders Passport with visa.
- Tasmanian State Sponsored skilled migrant visa holders Passport with visa. Copy of your sponsorship notification from the Department of State Growth, Migration Tasmania.
- Dependent or partner (spouse) of an eligible primary visa holder (numbers 1-5)
Passport with visa (either spouse visa, or visa categories 1-5 only. Copy of primary visa holder visa.
Bridging visa holders are ineligible for Tasmanian Government subsidised training.
The table below outlines what courses offered by 4 Up Skilling are approved and eligible for subsidised funding under the Skills Tasmania ATTF.

Applying for funding:
In addition to the above ATTF requirements, 4 Up Skilling will require you complete all the following for enrolment:
- Complete the 4 Up Skilling enrolment form
- Complete a Pre Training Review (PTR)
- Complete an Language, Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment
- Provide evidence of your citizenship and/or visa status as noted earlier.
- Complete our enrolment interview with one of our friendly enrolment staff
- Develop a training plan with your course coordinator and sign it
- Attend your induction prior to commencing your course
Students who do not provide a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) are not entitled to subsidies under Skills First. You can create a USI or find your existing USI using here.
